TEXT: Nehemiah 1
INTRO: Nehemiah is a cup-bearer to a Babylonian king. He receives overwhelming news from Jerusalem: the walls are broken down, the gates are burned, the remnant left in Israel is in dire straights. Nehemiah knew who God was, he knew that Jerusalem was to be a safe haven and a place for God’s presence to dwell on earth, and he knew something needed to be done to restore the walls. But when faced with insurmountable odds, understanding who God is allows us to act in the right way to overcome the overwhelming circumstances in our lives.
