Text: Genesis 12:1-3
Intro: The early years of Abraham's life. (Ro. 1:17)
OUTLINE:
1. ABRAM'S PAST OBSCURITY: (Gen. 11:27-30)
A) The Place of His Original Home - Ur of the Chaldees.
B) The Problems of His Original Home - (Gen. 31:30-32)
C) The Pain of His Original Home –(Eph.2:1-3); (2Cor. 5:17)
2. ABRAM'S PARTIAL OBEDIENCE: (Gen.11:31-32)
A) The Call To Depart – (Gen.12:1) We are not told how the call came to Abraham. He was to leave his home, not knowing where he was going, or when he would arrive. (Ro.9:18-23)!
B) The Compromise In Devotion - The basis of Abram's call was for him to leave. It seems that Abram compromised by not separating from his family. (1Sam. 15:22)
C) The Cost of Delay - Abram's delay in obedience was costly to him. While he lingered in Haran precious years passed him by. The work is too precious and time is too short for us to delay. (Ro.13:11-14)
3. ABRAM'S PRECIOUS OPPORTUNITIES: (Gen.12:1-3)
A) To Walk In God's Presence - God Himself will direct this man's pathway. (Heb.13:5b); (Psa.37:19)
B) To Watch God's Providence - Abram doesn't know yet how God will work it all out, but he knows that God will do it. (Ro.4:21)
C) To Wonder At God's Purposes –(Gen.12:3b) When he died at the age of 175 he still did not have all the answer to that question. But, this man Abram died in faith. (1Pet.3:18-19)
The people God uses greatly are those who will walk obediently wherever the path of God leads them.
