Genesis 14:8-14

TEXT:  Genesis 14:8-14

INTRO: There is a word in the English language that we hear used from time to time. Yet, this is a word that we rarely see modeled in our day. That word is "Integrity." When a person has integrity, we mean that they have high moral standards. This is the behavior that is modeled by Abram in this passage.

OUTLINE
1.  ABRAM'S INTEGRITY IN WARFARE
   A). The Setting For His Warfare - This chapter tells us about a brutal invasion by a confederation of four powerful kings.
     (1). Involved A Vicious Retaliation – (Gen.14:8-9) This resulted in the sacking of Sodom and capturing of Lot.  (1Cor. 10:23)
     (2). Involved A Valid Reason – (Gen.14:12-13a-) When Abram heard that Lot was in trouble, he went to war. (2Cor. 10:3-5).
   B). The Success Of His Warfare – (Gen 14:14-15-)
     (1). His Preparations for The Enemy - (Gen 14:14)  Abram armed his men and prepared for the battle.  (Eph. 6:10-18)
     (2). His Pursuit of The Enemy - (Gen 14:15-) There are times when we need to take the fight to the enemy. (2 Tim. 4:7)
2.  ABRAM'S INTEGRITY IN WORSHIP  
   A). The Facilitator in Worship- Melchizedec (Gen 14:18)
     1) His Position- “A King”
     2) His Place- “King of Salem” (Peace)
     3) His Provision- Bread and wine (atonement)
     4) His Priesthood- “Priest of God Most High”
     5) His Portrait-  A type of Christ (Heb.7).
   B). The Fruit Of His Worship – (Gen 14:19-20a) Abram is known for his relationship to the Lord and is blessed as a result.
   C). The Faithfulness of His Worship – (Gen.14:20b) You will notice that Abram tithed while he was still a Gentile. Form of worship.
3.  ABRAM'S INTEGRITY IN WEALTH
   A). The Temptation He Endured – (Gen.14:21) The king of Sodom offers to allow Abram to keep all the goods he has won.
   B). The Testimony He Exhibited – (Gen.14:22-24) Abram's refuses to take a dime from the king of Sodom.
